Letter to Mr. Santelli

Mr. Santelli,

Your ‘rant’ has inspired a fairly large grassroots effort to organize tea party protests across the nation.  These efforts, while commendable, lack three very important factors: most of them aren’t in Chicago (most the top level organizers are, and there will be one), they aren’t in July, and most importantly they aren’t yours.

I like many others found your words uplifting and inspiring, and I believe you could be the hero so many liberty loving Americans have been searching for.  We are tired of the same old Washington games.  Both parties have shown fiscal and monetary irresponsibility continually despite promising change, and it is time someone led a very loud and visible protest against it.

Politics is often a game of buzz marketing.  Words like ‘change’ ‘reform’ ‘freedom’ ‘transparency’ and ‘responsibility’ are marketing tactics to get elected while legislation sports names that will sound great when presented to the public but deceive or mask its true nature.  I’m not asking you to run for office and change this, I wouldn’t want to ‘take a shower every hour’ either.  I’ve been in a position to know many that do.

I understand that your call for ‘A Chicago Tea Party in July’ was an impromptu statement made for effect during the heat of the moment on a live broadcast, so I can hardly blame you for not immediately running out to begin organizing such an event.  All things considered, however, both the grassroots Tea Party organization that has sprung up and Glenn Beck’s “We surround them” unveiling of the912project.com last night go to show that there is a huge demand for action, and since you fired the first shot, I would hope that at the very least you join the fight.

I will echo what I recently posted on my blog, where this letter also will shortly appear:

“I don’t want just another round of Tea Parties (the Ron Paul campaign had many), I want THE Tea Party.  The Rick Santelli Tea Party that hits home our sentiments and makes us decide to drop work, life, and everything else and travel to Chicago just to be there for this momentous occasion.  Right now real America needs a Hero not a sophist, and Santelli is about as close as we’ve come.  Rick are you out there?  Are you listening?  I want to go to your Tea Party, in July.”

All I ask, Mr. Santelli, is for you to continue what you have begun, be it intentional or otherwise.  If you want we can find people to organize the tea party, but you, the guest of honor, the keynote speaker, the hero, had better be there.

Thank you for your time,

James Thoburn
